The Creative Industries economic sector generates 30 million jobs globally and $704.2 billion in U.S. GDP alone. It is also one of the fastest growing economic sectors.

What does this mean for New Orleans? As a global leader in original creative content, it means we are poised to become a leading global economic center. How can we do this? What is the role of creatives and other economic development business and civic leaders? What can the average citizen do to help?

These are questions the Creative Alliance of New Orleans (CANO), Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation (LCEF) and the Downtown Development District (DDD) are addressing with the special program, «Creative Industries Day» that opens on the first day of New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, Monday, March 20th, at 11:00 a.m., continuing through to 8:30 in the evening, at the Contemporary Arts Center at 900 Camp Street, and at the Ogden Museum, 925 Camp Street. A special invite-only event and reception will be held at the Ogden Museum, 6:30-8:30pm.

CANO and LCEF are hosting two forums beginning at 11:00 AM and 1:15 PM focused on strategies to help build and grow the creative economy, and strategies for building creative industry businesses. CANO's first panel presents leaders from UNESCO, Pittsburgh and other innovative initiaitves to «Report on Creative Commerce Trends.» LCEF will host the second panel, «Why Cultural Entrepreneurship is a Win Win for All.» Five finalists will compete for over $45,000 in cash and services offered by the Downtown Development District at 3:00.

From major new festivals, co-op networking and funding to creative marketing strategies, expert speakers reveal the astounding changes in just the past few years on how seriously many cities, states and nations are taking the economic implications of cultural and creative industries development. A reception with updates from arts groups and creative induslry leaders caps the day from 6:30 — 8:30 PM. This session is by invittion. If interested in this closing event call 504.218.4807.
