Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation
4035 Washington Ave, New Orleans, Louisiana 70125
Join unCommon Construction's team, apprentices, alumni and partners for a lunch & learn to hear about the apprenticeship program and how you can get involved this school year!
As you know, one reason for our workforce shortage is that young people don't know enough about all the opportunities that are out there. Attending this lunch & learn is a chance to connect, so we can build a better bridge from education to employment together.
At this event, you'll hear from UCC NOLA alumni, Tuna Construction, Concordia Architecture, Planning, & Community Engagement and more about their experience being involved with the program.
Through uCC's high school apprenticeship program, students from five different schools apply to join a diverse team to earn hourly pay and school credit for building a house in a semester. At the end of the build, houses are sold to provide apprentices with a matching scholarship, wihch they can use for further education, industry certifications or the tools needed for a full time job. With 120+ hours of experience in a real-world, hands-on learning environment per semester, Apprentices develop skills, experience, and relationships that last as long as the house they use to build them.
As an individual or Industry Partner your participation builds awareness, exposure and connections to industry mentors and potential employers through a range of opportunities in the coming school year. Partners are recognized on unCommon Construction's build sites and throughout the community for the unique ways they support apprentices on the path to lead the workforce after graduating high school or college.
Hope to see you there!
