About The Curator
April Curran started to attend NOCCA while she was in the 7th grade in the year of 2006. At that point in time she was in the summer course for Creative Screenplay Writing. Then, a year later while she was in the 9th grade she auditioned and was accepted for the Visual Arts Program, which she began attending on Saturdays. She loved it so much there that she commuted across the lake from Mandeville for half days of art classes 5 days per a week for the next few years from 2008-2010. Following NOCCA and after graduating from Mandeville High School, April acquired her Associates Degree in Fine Arts from Delgado Community College in 2014. There she was acknowledged as a Student Success Story in the school paper The Dolphin in February 2013 for selling her art at Pirate's Alley in the French Quarter. While attending Delgado in 2013 she had a four-person exhibition at UNO. After, she decided to attend UNO for her Bachelor's Degree from 2014-2017. She has worked in production at Gallery Cayenne on Decatur St. and she painted the utility box on Canal St. and Jefferson Davis Pkwy for Community Visions Unlimited NOLA. She had solo-exhibitions at Faubourg Wines in the Marigny in 2014 and at The Scotts' Coffee and Tapas Bar on Carroll St. in Mandeville in 2015. She has completed corporate art commissions for August Schultz & Associates, The Bezou Law Firm, and Brigid Collins the Magistrate Commissioner of New Orleans. She has also worked at Good Children Gallery on St. Claude Ave. In 2012, she won 2nd Place for a painting contest awarded by Professor Mark Grote of Loyola University, and in 2017 two of her drawings were selected into the Juried Exhibit Drawing Contest at the UNO. Through-out her entire career at Delgado and at UNO she maintained the Dean's List for a GPA above 3.5 and was acknowledged as a Chancellor's Honor Graduate upon leaving both colleges.
