POSTCARDS FROM OVER THE EDGE goes back and forth between the days of Storyville 1897—1917 and the present day «Crime Against Nature» court case. We’ve all seen them. They come through the mail slot. Or we find them in our P.O. Box. They land on the mat outside the apartment door, or, sometimes, they even show up at the office in the post-person’s stack. Little postcards stamped “Sex Offender.” “Crime Against Nature” is a law that was instituted in Louisiana in 1805. Those charged and convicted of “Crime Against Nature” become registered sex offenders. As registered sex offenders, they then have to mail out those little post cards to their neighbors.
POSTCARDS FROM OVER THE EDGE is a work in development. THESE Infringe Fest New Orleans STAGED READINGS INCLUDE TALK BACKS WITHTHE CAST. The plaintiffs in the “Crime Against Nature” case worked successfully to eradicate an unjust law, an incredible testament to the power of positive transformation and the reclaiming of personal power. It is possible for someone who most people think is powerless to have more power than anyone could ever imagine.
A local project of National Performance Network / Visual Artists Network.
