SustainaBALL — A trash into treasure Mardi Gras Kick Off!
Funk Baby & Krewe of King James: The Super Bad Sex Machine Strollers presents an evening dedicated to celebrating sustainability (a word we don’t often hear or see in action during Carnival season)
Because we want to keep Mardi Gras FUNKY, not junky! We love the planet and recognize there are simple ways to continue the beautiful tradition of Mardi Gras without negatively impacting the environment that we rely on for survival.
Krewe of King James recognizes ways we can change it up, keep it fun, and create less waste.
We’ve started with the basics. Refuse. Reduce. Reuse. Repair. Recycle.
— We REFUSE to participate in the consumption of plastic beads and glitter that contribute to the demand of oil, clog growing landfills, leach toxic chemicals into groundwater, and are made by unjust labor.
— We REDUCE our consumption as a krewe by focusing on quality over quantity!
— We will REUSE discarded materials in our throws & float.
— We will REPAIR resources from previous years to reimagine capes, floats, and throws rather than starting from scratch.
— When necessary, we use RECYCLED plastic/paper for our stickers and other creative supplies.
Join Us and check out how we make our upcycled throws, learn some FunkY dance moves, check out our sustainable wear Fashion showcase and spend a lovely evening at the farm!
