Three Keys presents Nubya Garcia
When a jazz musician mentions «the club,» you can usually infer that she's referring to a jazz club. Not so with Nubya Garcia, an emerging tenor saxophonist who has also cultivated a reputation as a DJ. More to the point, the energy of U.K. club culture resonates deeply for Garcia, not as some crossover digression but rather as the pulse of a lifeblood. — Nate Chinen of NPR
Recently nominated alongside contemporary peers like Thundercat, Cécile McLoren Salvant and Shabaka Hutchings for Breakthrough Artist of the Year by Jazz FM, the London-based saxophonist and composer, Nubya Garcia is one of the leading forces behind the resurgence of jazz-influenced sounds in the UK. Raised in a creative environment built by a set of Caribbean parents, her brand of afro-tinged Jazz has made her a key component in a string of new and established groups: from work with MOBO Award-winning drummer, Moses Boyd, legendary Jungle producer and toaster, Congo Natty, through to her own works as part of six-piece, Maisha, and the Nérija septet.
She's here tonight making her New Orleans debut with special guests McKenna Alicia Lindell-Wright Band.
